Tonight while leaving EPCOT we saw the first signs of Hurricane Irma 2017 prep under way at Walt Disney World. Approximately 50 coach buses, which we expect are slated for hotel evacuation and several tree trimming/power pole repair trucks were present. As we were leaving we noticed more tree trimming and power pole repair trucks streaming in to the parking lot. We also noticed what seemed to be a similar activity on the old runway by Magic Kingdom. We are happy to know that such great plans are in the works to keep guests safe in the upcoming days.
Hurricane Irma will be the strongest hurricane on record to hit the Continental United States. At her peek, her sustained winds approached 200 mph and her width was nearly 400 miles across. This storm will be one of the greatest natural disaster to hit the United States. We will see in the coming days the complete damage caused by Irma, but as her track has swung to the west, almost the entire state will be subject to her strongest winds on the east side of the storm.
UPDATE 9/9/17 11 am - The entire Create lot at EPCOT is now full of tree trimming and power pole repair trucks and the coaches have been moved over to the old runway which is entirely full.
